Tjahjono D. Gondhowiardjo, MD, Ph.D., Fellow of Indonesian Academy of Sciences (since 2008), and Asia Pacific Professor of Ophthalmology (APPO, 2014). Currently, he has serve as Director of Development and Education JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics; Council member of The ASEAN (AAEH, 2006) and World Association of Eye Hospitals (WAEH, 2021), Medical Expert Panelist for President of Indonesia (2005-10, 2015-now), Chairman of Indonesian Eye Bank (2011), member of National Committee for Organ and Tissue Transplantation (2021), Board of Commissioner of Cicendo National Eye Hospital (2021).

He has had played strategic role in the development of Ophthalmology development in Indonesia; such as Head of the Department Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (1997-2005), President of Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association (2003-10), Chairman of Indonesian College of Ophthalmology (2010-16). Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO)’ Congress President (2009), Vice President (2010-12), Councilor and LDP’ Convener (2010-2016), Councilor at Large (2016-2024).

He received many awards, such as Best Young Researcher in Health Sciences (Indonesian Science Institute, 1994), Satya-Lencana Wira Karya (President of Indonesia, 2009), Arthur Liem’s Award on Leaderships (APAO 2010), Community Service Awards, Latter Day Saint Charity, USA (2018), Tun Hussein Onn Oration Award (THONEH, Malaysia. 2019).
