Dr Howard Cajucom-Uy completed his medical and Ophthalmology training at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Philippines. He underwent fellowship training in Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery at the Singapore National Eye Centre in 2001 and joined the Singapore Eye Bank full-time the next year. He was awarded the EBAA Mary Jane O’Neill International Fellowship in Eye Banking in 2007 and a SightLife Academy Fellowship in Eye Banking in 2011. He helped establish Singapore Eye Bank’s open-container processing service in 2011 where over 2400 successful procedures have been performed to date. He has been course faculty for SNEC’s Advanced Surgical ALK/EK course since 2007 and currently serves as Lead, Allied Health Professionals, for SingHealth Duke Transplant Centre.

The wet-lab will be conducted by expert EK surgeons and instructors, who will demonstrate donor tissue trephination, loading, and insertion. Using human pre-cut corneal tissue, all participants will have the opportunity to be guided by dedicated instructors to perform the fundamental technique of pre-cut donor tissue trephination, correct loading techniques, recipient preparation, and insertion into human corneas mounted on artificial chambers

The wet-lab will be conducted by renowned DMEK surgeons and instructors, who will demonstrate DMEK donor tissue preparation, DMEK donor insertion using the modified Jones tube approach, and donor positioning. All participants will have the opportunity to be guided by dedicated instructors to perform the fundamental techniques of DMEK tissue handling, tube loading, donor insertion into human corneas mounted on artificial chambers, and various donor tapping and manipulation surgical techniques.
