Prof. Mario NUBILE, MD, PhD 


Mario Nubile, is currently Associate Professor in Ophthalmology and Director of the Cornea Service of the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti and Pescara – Italy.  He  completed his Residency Program in Ophthalmology in 2003 and his PhD program in 2007. Since 2005, he has been appointed as Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology (Researcher) in service at the Ophthalmology Clinic, Center of Excellence in Ophthalmology, National High-Tech Eye Center, University of Chieti-Pescara, Italy. In 2017 he received full qualification as Associate Professor in Ophthalmology, and in 2023 received the qualification for Full Professor in Ophthalmology.

He is the Head of the “Cornea and Ocular Surface Service” of this University. Principle fields of interest include ocular surface diseases, corneal pathologies and surgery, keratoplasty, femtosecond laser refractive surgery, anterior segment imaging. 

Dr. Nubile is Author of more than 160 scientific publications in ophthalmology, books and book chapters, of which 92 are published on international peer reviewed journals with impact factor. (H-index 33; Citations: 2994)

Teaching Activities: Teacher of Ophthalmology at the Medical School Program, Teacher of pathologies of the anterior segment and Anterior Segment surgery in the Residency program in Ophthalmology. Member of the Teacher Professors Collegium of the PhD program in “Medical Biotechnology” of the University since 2013. Former External Examiner of International PhD thesis in Europe (UK, Denmark, Spain). 

He is Scientific Reviewer for several international scientific journals since 2005. He is member of the Executive Board of the EuCornea (European Society of the Cornea and Ocular Surface Specialists) with the function of Secretary General.  He has been member of the ESCRS Research Committee (2016-2023) and he is currently Member of the ESCRS Program Committee (2024).  He is Coordinator of the Anterior Segment Programs of the ESASO (European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology).
