Naoyuki MAEDA, MD

Naoyuki Maeda, MD, PhD graduated from Kochi University in Kochi, Japan following completion of his residency training at Osaka University Hospital, Osaka, Japan. Fellowship years at LSU Eye Center in New Orleans, U.S.A. were spent for the research in corneal topography and refractive surgery. He has been a faculty (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Endowed Professor, and Specially Appointed Professor) at the Department of Ophthalmology, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine from 1995 to 2024. Currently, he is an Assistant Director at Kozaki Eye Clinic, Osaka, Japan.

His subspecialty is surgical and medical treatments of corneal diseases, contact lens for keratoconus, and cataract surgery. Prof. Maeda developed innovative instruments including software for automated keratoconus detection in corneal topographic analysis, a hybrid wavefront sensor with corneal topographer, a corneal tomographic analysis with OCT, and an IOL formula.

He is the author of many original articles in peer-review journals: 241, reviews: 13, and book chapters: 8. He received the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2005, the Council Award from the Japan Ophthalmological Society in 2010, the Silver Fellow Medal from the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, 2016, and the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2016.
