Dr. Chan has built a distinguished career in ophthalmology, characterized by a blend of academic, clinical, and research excellence. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a position she has held since February 2024. Prior to this role, Dr. Chan was an Associate Consultant at the Hong Kong Eye Hospital under the Hospital Authority from March 2023 to February 2024. Since March 2023, he has also been contributing as an Honorary Clinical Supervisor at The Hong Kong College of Family Physicians.
Dr. Chan’s clinical journey began as a House Officer at QMH, UCH, PWH, and KWH hospitals from July 2015 to June 2016. He then progressed to become a Resident Trainee at the Hong Kong Eye Hospital from July 2016 to February 2023, during which time she also served as an Honorary Clinical Tutor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong until April 2023.
In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Chan has attained several prestigious qualifications. She became a Fellow of the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong (FCOphthHK) and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (FHKAM) in 2023. She holds a full registration with a license to practice from the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom since 2020. Dr. Chan is also a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist and Medical Examiner for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority in Australia, roles she has held since 2019 and 2023, respectively. Furthermore, she is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd(Ophth)).
Dr. Chan's educational background is equally impressive. She earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB.BS) from The University of Hong Kong in 2015. She further pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Epidemiology & Biostatistics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2023 and obtained an Australian Certificate of Civil Aviation Medicine from Monash University in 2018.
Her achievements have been recognized through numerous awards, including winning the Dr. Barry Cullen Residents Challenge by The College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong in 2022 and the Hong Kong Society of Community Medicine Prize in 2014. She was also a Candidate of Distinction Viva for Continuous Assessment at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong in 2013.
Dr. Chan is a prolific researcher with multiple publications to her name. Her recent work includes studies on photokeratitis in outdoor event participants published in JAMA Ophthalmology (2024), and research on uveal and conjunctival melanomas in Chinese patients published in the Hong Kong Medical Journal (2023). She has also explored topics such as intrapapillary hemorrhage in myopic adolescents and eyelash trichomegaly induced by erlotinib for metastatic lung cancer, contributing valuable insights to the field of ophthalmology.
