WL-PIOL Wetlab As Chair

INASCRS Phakic IOL Wet-Lab

September 28, 2024 13:00 - 15:00 (GMT+7) Blake

The objective of the Phakic IOL wet lab is to provide ophthalmic surgeons with comprehensive training and hands-on experience in the implantation of Phakic intraocular lenses (IOLs). Phakic IOLs are designed for patients with high refractive errors who are not ideal candidates for corneal refractive surgery. The wet lab focuses on familiarizing participants with the preoperative assessment, precise surgical techniques, and postoperative management necessary for successful Phakic IOL implantation. Through practical exercises, surgeons will learn to navigate the unique challenges of this procedure, such as accurate sizing, safe insertion, and proper positioning of the lens within the anterior chamber or ciliary sulcus. Additionally, the wet lab aims to enhance the participants' understanding of the anatomical considerations and potential complications associated with Phakic IOL implantation. Expert instructors will provide insights into patient selection criteria, risk assessment, and strategies for minimizing intraoperative and postoperative complications. Participants will have the opportunity to practice techniques for managing adverse events and ensuring optimal visual outcomes for their patients. By the end of the session, surgeons will have gained the skills and confidence necessary to effectively perform Phakic IOL implantation, expanding their ability to offer advanced refractive solutions to patients with high refractive errors.
