Doctor Soma graduated from Osaka University and completed his ophthalmic residency and fellowship training at Osaka University hospital and affiliated hospitals. He graduated from Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine and became a PhD. Now he is an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine. His areas of expertise are regenerative medicine and corneal transplantation. He recently conducted first-in-human clinical research on iPS cell-derived corneal epithelium for limbal stem cell deficiency. He has also been involved in clinical research on corneal transplantation and developed a new graft insertion device in DSAEK. He is currently the director of Keratoplasty Society of Japan
